Writing Prompts

We encourage you to write on any topic and in any form you wish. Consider it a practice of developing your skills in expression. How well can you communicate your thoughts? What stories can you make up? When you're done, you can share your work by emailing it to BAHM.

Consider choosing from these prompts to get started:

Medical prompts:

  1. Write about a time when you did or did not stand up for a patient.
  2. Describe a time when you had a misunderstanding.
  3. How has your learning in medical school affected how you view and understand your own body and being? Describe yourself.
  4. Would you donate your body to a medical school? Why?
  5.  Write a short story about what you are experiencing right now as a medical student, whether it be negative or positive.
Non-medical prompts:
  1. Write a few lines of poetry about something you saw or felt today.
  2. Write a story or poem about a basket full of daffodils. (Alternatively, write a story or poem in which the word "daffodil" is used as an insult).
  3. You want to become a knife-thrower in the circus. Write a plea to convince your significant other to stand against the wall blindfolded for you to practice.
  4. You wake up to find that you have magically grown a thick, lush, curling-at-the-tips moustache overnight. Write a poem or story about your day from this point on.
Enjoy!
